Respect the timber’s character
Teak may show salt deposits, dirt and natural greying over time. Planning considers the timber condition, previous oils or protectants and existing wear. A material-appropriate cleaning method is selected rather than harsh scrubbing or unnecessary abrasion. The aim is care that respects the natural character of teak; cracks or fixing problems cannot be considered resolved simply by applying an oil or another surface product.
Cleaning and product selection
The surface is cleaned with suitable products and equipment, then allowed to dry as required by the chosen treatment. If teak oil or another protectant is considered, compatibility and the desired appearance are discussed. Products are applied in controlled amounts and excess removed. Not every teak surface requires an identical finish, so the use area and existing care system inform the treatment decision.
Maintain care around actual use
After marine surface work, regular condition checks remain important. Salt deposits, sunlight, contact and cleaning habits can influence the result. Ask your dealer to explain the treated areas, appropriate care products and any conditions before returning the vessel to use. If new marks, wear or damage appear, reassessment is preferable to aggressive treatment and helps identify a suitable next step for that surface.
