Assess the gelcoat finish
Salt deposits, dirt and oxidation can leave gelcoat looking dull. Colour, wear and previous treatments are inspected before care begins. Superficial dullness differs from cracking or loss of finish. The initial check establishes whether polishing is suitable and which areas may require repair assessment, rather than pursuing appearance improvements through unnecessary abrasive work on a surface that cannot support further correction.
Controlled cleaning and polishing
The finish is cleaned with suitable products. Where appropriate, compounds and equipment chosen for the gelcoat condition can provide controlled polishing. Residues and the response of the surface are monitored throughout. Compatibility is considered before any finishing protection is added. The purpose is to support the appearance and care of sound existing material; deep scratches, breaks and structural problems may require a different process.
Maintain care around actual use
After marine surface work, regular condition checks remain important. Salt deposits, sunlight, contact and cleaning habits can influence the result. Ask your dealer to explain the treated areas, appropriate care products and any conditions before returning the vessel to use. If new marks, wear or damage appear, reassessment is preferable to aggressive treatment and helps identify a suitable next step for that surface.
